Fingerprint Locks

OVERVIEW

Fingerprint locks for entry doors usually cost around $200 to $250 on average, and they can be found on most home centers and hardware stores. You can also order them online if you prefer. Despite their numerous electronic components, these locks are durable, efficient and easy to work with.

Furthermore, like most biometric security devices, fingerprint locks read your fingerprints when you provide the right biometric data, or in this case, your fingerprints. This data then activates the battery powered deadbolt which either opens or closes the lock shut. Naturally, most fingerprint locks don’t require keys or keycodes (though most hybrid locks offer them). All they need is the right biometric data and they will allow you through. This is all very basic information.

What you may not know about fingerprint locks is that their installation process is relatively simple. Contrary to what many people think, installing a fingerprint lock isn’t all that complicated. No hardwiring is required and most fingerprint lock batteries last for about one year, which means that not only are they easy to install, they are relatively durable. So if you are planning to install one in your home then here’s what you should know about them.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

To install a fingerprint lock, you should have the following items close at hand before you begin. This way, you’ll be able to save yourself some time.

• A Cordless Drill

• A Four in One Screwdriver

• The Biometric Lock

• Measuring Tape

• A Pencil

• A Notepad

Now it’s worth mentioning that you should only attempt installing your fingerprint lock if the instruction manual allows DIY installations. If they don’t then you should get a professional to work on the project on your behalf. Furthermore, if your lock’s instruction manual offers its own set of instructions for installation then you should follow that instead of any guide you find on the internet (including this one), as they are often more reliable.

Having said that, here’s what you should do in order to install your lock. First, take the measurements of your fingerprint lock and jot them down on your notepad. Next, use your measuring tape to trace the area around your door where you wish to install the lock, and then draw the area on which you will install your lock.

Once you are satisfied with your initial work, you can begin installing the lock. Installing a fingerprint lock is similar to the way one installs a deadbolt lock. So if you don’t know how to do this, look for directions on the internet.

Take your cordless drill and start drilling holes for your lock’s screws. Once everything is in place, put your digital lock into the designated area and start drilling the screws in. Once you’re finished, test your fingerprint lock to see if its scanner is working.

CONCLUSION

Installing a fingerprint lock is not really very difficult. Although some products and brands are more advanced than others, most fingerprint locks are very similar to deadbolt locks that you can easily install them without too much trouble. So if you want to buy these locks, go ahead. They’re quite easy to install.
