Door Locks

OVERVIEW

The top door locking systems are tough, resilient and difficult to break into. This is why not all locks could be considered door locks because only locks which have the right set of features and mechanisms should be installed on a door. So if you’re looking for a reliable set of locks for your door then the following article will show you which ones to choose.

DEADBOLT LOCKS

Deadbolt locks are the most obvious and are among the most common type of door lock. They’re tough, durable and most of them are designed for external doors. Certain deadbolt locks can also withstand burglary tools, like crowbars or pliers for example, making them great locks for securing your exterior doors.

The only trouble is that deadbolt locks aren’t as useful for internal doors, since many of them can only be opened using keys. So if you’re going to install deadbolt locks in your home, be sure to install them on external doors only. Alternatively, you can also try buying hybrid deadbolt locks, which offer different locking mechanisms for you to use.

KNOB LOCKS

Knob locks are the most convenient door locking system. Although they may not be as tough or as durable as deadbolt locks, what they lack in durability, they make for versatility and convenience. Locking and unlocking them is very easy, and it is this ease of use which makes them one of the most popular types of locks in the world.

The downside, however, is that these locks are not very strong. They can be destroyed by pliers, crowbars, hammers or even simple kicks, which is why you shouldn’t install them on your exterior doors, as they won’t offer much protection.

LEVER HANDLE LOCKS

Lever handle locks are easier to open than knob locks thanks to their push-down handle which only needs to be grasped and turned. This type of lock is often featured on the doors of commercial buildings but they can also be used for the homes of the physically handicapped. In fact, many level handle locks are designed specifically to help disabled people gain access to areas that they to go to. So if you live with someone with a disability then you may want to install these kinds of locks on certain rooms in your home.

JIMMY PROOF DEADBOLTS

These types of locks may use deadbolts, but they don’t have the same mechanisms as deadbolt locks. Their basic design includes a deadbolt which interlocks with jamb brackets, thus preventing the lock from being pulled apart by crowbars and other similar tools. Furthermore, they also feature a surface mount lock which allows the lock to screw inside the door instead of the drill pattern featured in many standard deadbolt locks.

Jimmy proof deadbolt locks are usually used on apartment doors as well as double doors. They are also popular thanks to their easy-to-install design. These types of locks are great for security, but they will require you to keep your keys in a safe place. So if you’re going to install this lock, make sure that you’re prepared to do so.
